How many

Hi. Back when I bought my used 72 gallon bow I also took the former owners fish from his 6 foot tank. I took 4 almost adult angels. This was a community tank. Problems arose when 2 of the angels decided to pair off. Mind you they had been grown up together in a large community of fish with no issues.
The aggression got so bad that I had to remove one angel as it was cornered and about to be killed and another constantly harassed by the now pair. Angels as they age are no angels. They become very beautiful cichlids. And as with any cichlid they have very individual behaviors. But when paired and or breeding the other fish in the tank better look out.
I now have one adult koi angel in my 120 gallon along with severums and pearl gouramis. With angels at a young age you can have quite a few but as they age you need a plan B. They are great fish and I have the one adult koi angel in the 120 and another in a 29 gallon. They have in the past been housed with all sorts of tetras with no problems same for bolivian rams, keyholes, rainbows and cories..Of course providing the tank is large enough.
IMO usually angels and barbs are a bad mix.. while I'm not familiar with your barbs, they look beautiful in the site, a friend had a 350 gallon heavily planted tank with among others, medium sized angels and tiger barbs in large schools and the barbs were just too aggressive for the angels and would chase their long fins. Eventually he gave the angels to me. Of course everyone's experience is different and angels are great fish that really look beautiful in a school, just be aware that you may have issues in the future when they pair. You may have better luck with keeping them all the same sex but they are difficult to sex until they are adults. Good luck whatever you decide to do. HTH Sue

I may try it but if i do it will be wilds probably peru scalares as i can get those easily, may try leopoldi as they get those regularly too.

Maybe you should observe the community and find out who are the nippers. I guarantee you won't want to keep angels with any nippy fish. The angels will stress out and get sick.

:iagree:

I watch it all the time im at home the only nipping i have seen is the new rainbows and the killis, the barbs are completely fine have never seen them chase anything, to be honest they are probably at the bottom of the pecking order below the harlequins. When i remove the fish im taking out i will watch them before deciding to get the angels in case their demeanor changes when they are at the top of the order. So I will probably get 6 wild angels then.

tbh...90 gals is not that much. i had 5 angels in a 110gal and they started to get really nasty with each other regarding territory. they kept on pecking at each other..go with 4 the most i'd say...but if you get a breeding pair which i did, then things might get a little complicated.

what could i do instead?

with 90 gals you could have an oscar and a poly...those are my kind of fish lol. its up to you. put down a list of fish you would like to keep now/later/near future and we will help you decide :)

Is it worth trying discus in this tank? As im really close by to get discus from April in Vancouver.
