how many??

It's going to depend on what species(are you overstocking for aggression), filtration, water parameters, etc...we need some more info to make sure you get proper advice.

I would recommend adding a second filter such as a sunsun 302, it will give you the extra filtration needed without being too expensive. If you add that then you shouldn't have a problem housing 15-20 Mbuna along with a BN for housekeeping.

I'm sure you'll get alot of differing advice here depending on one's philosophy. For africans, I buy small ones about 1 -1.5 inches and overcrowd them. I have a 65 gal and have over 30 fish in there and plan to get some more, but I over filter and have good flow with good water quailty. There is always a fish or two or three that grows very fast and then you can sell them back or give to a friend.

I'm sure you'l get a lot of advice on here on what filter to get. On my 65 I have two emperor 400's. I like these filters because they are easy to change, deliver alot of flow, they have an extra space for added filter media and they are not that expensive. I also like the concept of the bio wheels. The downside is that they are big and are not good for a see thru tank and you have to buy the filter cartriges.

I am still looking at getting a cannister filter that runs at least 300 gal/hr as well. I guess I'm a fan of Marineland products and they have a fairly new cannister filter series that looks fairly easy to change and doesn't drip alot of water.

Some day I'd also like a sump/refugium to grow some turf algae or alot of plants for even more filtration!

Sorry for the long post, but I hope this helps!

I also have a whisper 100 air pump with two lines that produces a lot of upward flow. I don't use air stones so there is little back pressure and a lot of large bubbles.
