Lol. They are not crap looking. They are coloring up nicely at a small size. If someone is breeding festae, they know what they're doing. They're not convicts. There's just not a huge market for them here. Supply vs demand.

Ya true I just would really like to have wild caught especially since I paid so much for them. They were sellibg them as true wild caught red terrors.

You have to understand that labeling them wild caught increases the chances they will get sold whether they actually are or not. It's what hobbyist want to hear. And sellers on every level know it.
You can't distinguish a 1" wild caught from 1" pond/vat/gutter/tank or teacup bred one. That's why the only ones always readily available as F0 are the 1" fingerlings. 99.9% are farmed.

Transshippers/suppliers typically require $800-$1000 min. order from wholesalers. 1" Festae would run approx. $1/ea. At the $1000/min. That's 1000 fry. These are available year round. Wholesalers label them as F0 to justify their markup as does the local LFS. They actually have no clue as to the true origins. But if they say F0, chances are some poor trusting soul will take the bait.

Wild caught Festae in years gone by were only available after the rainy season ended and the rivers were low enough to collect. And they were never ever imported/exported at 1". 3"-6" was the norm. Usually in lots of 20-45.
Jes sayin.

Funny how things work.
I saw a bag of 5 X 1" festae go for $5 at the last Chicago Cichlid Classic auction last summer.
Depends on where you live, and if is there is a glut.
Dovii were 5 for $1 at the last Milwaukee auction and I was giving away haitiensus a few years back.

1. An auction is much different, and you can expect to pay much less there.

2. The "$3 festae" may very well be Urophthalmus - I still see many Mayans labeled as festae.

The guy wanted to know what he could get for his fry - this isn't a price slashing party.

Lol ya thanks fwprawn. Like I said I just wanted to know how much I could sell festae fry out here in denver it took a long time to find them and when I did they were labeled wild caught. So I was curious on how much I could have sold there fry for. I know theres a chance that they could have just said there wild caught and you will never know. Ill try and post some pics on monday. Then maybe you guys can tell or takk **** whatever you perfer.

And also they dont sell them that often. The only time they have had them in this lfs in around june-September. Something like that. And thats the only lfs that I have found that has them ive went to many other ones and they said they can't get them anymore. So maube there were wild caught I sure hope so. But I see your point bomillyiam you really will never know if ot was farm raised or wild caught.

If the store called them Red Terrors than there is a good chance they are Mayans,

Are they Festae For sure?

Yes they are for sure I know mosr stores sell them as myan. They look the same when there little but even at an inch you can tell if there ture based on the spot on there tail. Mine are real. Ill post pics as soon as I can
