how much current do hillstreams need?

i know these things come from flowing rivers where the current must be tremendous. but do they really need that in an aquarium? id love it if i could get away with not having to provide them any current at all but i imagine thats not a possibility. my issue is that i want to put three of them in a ten gallon tank with a betta. bettas dont like much current in there tanks. however, iv got a filter, its a trio 2000 (ill provide a link at the end of the post), and it uses a powerhead. i can probably get it positioned with the powerhead towards the bottom (it might get flipped upside down) which would create a current and at the same time leave top of the aquarium rather calm for the betta. i also have a lot of plants and decorations that can be used to direct the current and keep it isolated so it doesnt take over the whole tank. does this sould like it will work?

also, i can cut off a piece of tubing from a siphon system and attach it to the powerhead outtake, i can then run that under the sand and make it come out at whatever direction and location i want for optimal positioning (like say against the glass)
 
Currents are a way of relaxation for the hillstreams. Having originated from fast flowing waters, they become easily agitated if they are not provided a fast flowing environment. You might want to bear in mind hillies are coldwater whereas bettas are strictly tropical. This combination will not work.
 
well thats a bummer, id really love to mix the two. ok so what about that filter? do you think if i left out the betta (so the temperature can be dropped) that the filter i plan on using will create enough of a current in a ten gallon or should i get a small powerhead or one of those SW aquarium fan/blower things?
 
A 10g is not an option for a river setup. I'd get a longer tank, preferably 55g. Using a powerhead in a 10g is creating a blender or whirlpool.
