Hi how many of you guys run power heads in your african tanks? I have a 6x2x2 tank i am setting up was wondering wether to run a power head or if it was necessary? I am putting in a 4 air cutain for aearation so it would purely be for current flow. Any thoughts would be appreciated (i,m from Aust i know you guys go by gallon size for your tanks we go by tank size have no idea how many gallons this will be)

I have a 6'x'2'x2' and there are 3 powerheads at the bottom to circulate the water. The cichlids love the currents, which also lift up any poo at the bottom and they are 'vacuumed' by 3 AQ110 on the top.

My Mbunas are constantly swimming into the current. I placed a small powerhead into the tank during cycling and ended up leaving it in because they seemed to like so much.

I use a canister filter already (rena xp1) on one of my african tanks and it is strong enough to make a current. They enjoy whatever current they get from my filter so I can only imagine how good it would be for them to actually have a powerhead. I think aeration is the thing you need to have with african cichlids. Set your powerhead so it makes more surface agitation.

mine also seem to like the current and i have a hob and a canister pump with a 2 and a half foot spray bar

I use multiple filters and powerheads in almost all of my tanks, one of my tropheus tanks has 1400 GPH right now between 1 canister 3 HOB filters and 2 powerheads. There is never such a thing as over filtering :D

Keep it... I use a Rio 2100 on my return. It has a spliter for a surface ripper and on output that points downward. The fish love it and so do the cats.

you definately should have a powerfull power head for a tank that size. Just to pick all the stuff off the bottom of your tank
Don't worry dude i'm an aussie and i to get confused with the size thintg
