Interesting, read all pages. I work on commission only, so I am stuck in the middle.
Especially with people complaining that everyone deserves a tip.

Being in sales there has been many times where I spend hours with customers, do my job and go above and beyond and still make literally nothing if they don't buy. Yet no one brings this up.
That said the opposite is true as well, can make decent money off doing little sometimes so it tends to balance out.

I do tip very heavily for good service though personally.

Over hear, you already paid good money for the meal. Why should I have to pay the waiter anymore. That's their employers job, not mine. Sounds like you guys over the other side of the pond need to eliminate this tipping concept and get the minimum fair wages in order and up to a better standard?

I´m European so I fully understand what your saying. It´s a completely different system in the US. It seems the burden of the waiter´s salary is transferred from the employer to the customer.

Here, when we go to a restaurant the price you see in the menu is what you have pay in the end (service and taxes included). IF the service is good, you tip. But you don´t have to.

I remember when I went for the first time to USA (loong time ago in my college finalist´ trip, so in a short budget...) it was kind of a shock. I saw something in the menu for 50 but in the end had to accrue taxes and tip and it costed 60+...

ok, this is huge, this is freakin huge for me

I think i'm gonna start tipping 2% max now. or it's gonna be between 2-5%, 5 being max

Sounds like a dream come true for you.... :thumbup:I tip 12%if the suck and 17 if there awesome but that is me.
But can't federal law and state law be different such as growing/selling marijuana for medical use that is against federal law. but the state of California has a law saying it is okay to do so.. Confusing......

lol, well, it's just that I've gotten so much crap from people about how I feel. from friends, family, forums,....... most of the arguments was that they make less than min wage and that I'm cheap. it's just good to know those people were talking out their arses. i'd like to see how people who've debated with me feel about it now. since they are making min wage, why tip them and not other min wage jobs who do a service to us? but no one has answered.

yes mj has been legalized here. it's very easy to get. not that I do it but I know people who do

Yeah you have gotten a lot. And your sticking to what you believe which is good. And you make a good point. But what min wage jobs are we talking about... All customer service based? Or others in general?

thanks

customer service based and in general

like the guys that deliver your furniture or the guy who does your lawn. anything really. I've been to grocery stores and see the cashier run around to find something for someone in line who forgot something. all this time people in line are being impatient. and I've seen with my own eyes some cashiers clean the restrooms and are out in the heat collecting shopping carts and line them up for us. man, they all work hard for their money to help us out.

they deserve tips too, no? and if not, tell me why?

last year I had 2 guys deliver a king size bed frame and a marble top dinner table. they delivered them in pieces and put it all together in my house. I tipped them $10 each. I would never leave a $20 tip at a restaurant. but these guys did some heavy lifting on a hot day and worked diligently to get in and out as fast as they could. all while being very polite and made sure I was satisfied with everything before they left

Tradition. Just obviously not a Hmong tradition...

like the guys that deliver your furniture or the guy who does your lawn.

I tip them as well.

well, screw that tradition. some traditions need to be updated

we have to pay a min of $5000 to marry someone's daughter. and if she has higher education they ask for more. that's why I married my wife after she got her bachelor's. she got her master's after we got married. screw marrying a doctor. I know a guy who paid $10,000 for his phd wife

if I ever got divorced and remarried, i'm gonna demand my money back from her family first, then i'm going after the ones with baggage. they are the cheapest. even said girl's family just wanna get it over with as quick as possible
