How much food does your Ray eat in a day?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I would not be to concerned still needs time to settle in just get your wallet ready. Also all rays at all sizes go nuts for blackworms and is all I start a new ray in my home

If you get him started on ray candy (black worms) you may not get him off them. Here he was on sand eating NC, shrimp and talipia. I have always fed 1 time per day. You might give a couple worms in the morning and some more in the evening to keep some weight on him till he settles in.

once a day for me too.i feed my rays 2 whole shrimp a ray. keep the water cleaner and keep me from scooping poop out more than once a day.

my 10 female motoro is eating machine, once i week i feed her 4 table spoons of striped bass fillets, then next days 10 silversides, next -10 red wigglrs,next-1 shrimp. only thing it wont eat is pellets and squid.she went from 9 " to 11" in 4 months.

seems like the ray should eat more. But dont forget the ray was just moved and has to be at least a lil stressed. i would give it 2 weeks or so. Even my lil "retic" male can eat 3 to 4 big canadian nightcrawlers in 2 mins he is only 7 or 8 inch disc

ok, with all the information you gave, sounds like its just stressed still from being in a new tank.
Id feed him whatever he will eat and give it some time. He just needs time to settle in.

If he was on sand and in with other rays, now being placed in a tank that is totally different, its just weird to him. He is just prob getting use to the new area.
Blackworms will help, but like some others have said, it may be harder to get him off later. Id keep doing what you are doing.
In time, he will settle in and start eating more.

Keep us informed.

I have a 4" Hystrix. She is fairly new as well have had her less then a week and she is eating just like your ray is. I think it is because of the move and new surroundings. Also even though your water params are great.. the water still deviates from the other tank the ray was in. You could never match that water perfectly. So your ray will need some time to adjust to the new life and I'm sure the feedings will pick up. I'm not going on personal ray keeping experience as I'm new to this.. but fish keeping experience.

I would have to agree, sounds like he/she is stressed out from the move, it wouldn't surprise me if a ray goes a week or maybe 2 without eating if the move/ new water was considerably different from their old water.
I feed once a day, my 13" jaguar ray eats 5 - 4" pieces of shrimp every day and every once in awhile i stuff her shrimp with massivore so she doesn't know shes being plumped :naughty: haha

X2 on the blackworms, i have found they are great to get them eating something and it could take time but they should transfer back off worms
