I'm just curious what the going rate for these guys is? I saw one at an lfs for 150.00 and didn't know whether this was an acceptable price for these guys or not. LFS said they were omnivores. Really gorgeous pleco. Anybody know if they are very outgoing or if they hide all the time? I'm sure I could find one marginally cheaper online but once you pay for shipping....plus the store does a 7 day gurantee on all fish which is a plus for me if I was ever to buy such an expensive fish. They also had GNs for 35.00. Thanks for any replies.

I personally have'nt seen them available too often anymore, but I think I'd have a hard time spending that much for it. With that said, a fish is worth what YOU think it is worth. Just dont tell your non-fishkeeping friends what you paid, they'll think you're:screwy:.lol

If it were a plec I really really wanted? Heck yes, I'd pay $150 and more for it. Like Wingate said-a fish is worth what YOU think it's worth. I wouldn't pay $300/mo for a car payment, but some do and their car's worth it. Just a matter of priorities.

won't speak to the price, but I don't they are just omnivores, I think they are closer to carnivores . . . i.e., don't expect them to eat algae

150 is a major rip off

adults top out at 75 bucks though

20 bucks to 40 bucks is the going rate for the most available subadults/junvies - look on aquabid.com its cheaper to even pay for one fish then have it overnited for 20-40 bucks still way less than a 150 buck price tag.....

For your info, king tigers do perfer to hide in their caves for security reasons- thats what mine does- the only plecos i have had in my collection thats way outgoing is the L-134s, they're always exploring around the tanks showing off their colors. same with my L-264s just need to get a colony of them and both leopard frog and the sultans are more outgoing chilling outside of their hiding places being themselevs..while my kings just hides away like sissies they are

PAID 40 BUCKS FOR MINE.....150 BUCKS THATS SOME SERIOUS RAPING:irked:

I was thinking 150.00 sounded a little outrageous. Which this store is a little pricey in general but they are the only ones in my area that specialize in both marine and fresh. The only place to get fresh water fish is petsmart and petco which probably explains their prices. They own the market basically.

Doesn't surprise me that he's a carnivore instead of an omnivore, the guy that actually works with the fresh water wasn't in that day.

Thanks for the info Proteus. I like the looks of both the Sultans and the Leopard Frogs, although from looking them up it seems the leopard frogs grow to a smaller length which would be more ideal for my situation if they prefer to be kept in groups. What are you calling a colony exactly? Three, four, more lol? I'm looking for something to keep with my single blue acara in a 40gallon and a pleco was suggested. I know most of them get too big, I have a suspicion that that King Tiger may have eventually gotten too big for this tank. I don't mind whether they eat algae or not. I keep pufferfish and other carnivores so tank cleaning is a common occurence in the house. I like plecs, I've always thought they were cute and they always get pushed to the side. I'm just looking for something with a nice color and that won't hide 24/7.

Thanks for the responses.

Blue Panaques (L239) are said to like to be in groups. I just love those fish. They're like dark gray with a blue shine to them and only get around 3". They'd work for what you want.
