How much gravel

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I like to have a lot of gravel or substrate in all my tanks. I have 20 pounds of sand in a 10 gallon! But I just like a lot of substrate as you can move it around more. I usually angle my substrates as a hill rising up from the front of the tank. It makes the tanks look way bigger! That's just my personal opinion though. I used 100 pounds of gravel in my 55.

That's the 55 some gravel is stacked up in different spots but this is the normal height throughout the tank though. Some parts of the 55 have way more gravel than others.

75lbs should get you about an inch and a half to 2". I used about 100lbs in my 90gal and that gave me 2.5" (90g and 75g is the same footprint I think). I also used about 140 lbs of sand in my 125g. and that gave me 2". It seems 1lb per gallon almost works here, depending on pebble size.

75lbs for 75gals sounds about right to me. If the pebbles are 1/4" or smaller you might need a bit more.
