I seriously don't understand the argument here. Everyone has different taste in fish and everyone has a different perspective on value and beauty. In fact this argument is an example of that. So everyone stop arguing over NOTHING.

This really wasnt about fish to me, it was mainly about price setting and market principles. People in general tend to have a poor grasp of economics and its a pet peeve of mine because I think society suffers as a result. Off course I do believe, as do most aquarian historians, that the oscar is the foundation fish of the wet pet and monster fish movement and I do think they deserve far more respect than they are given.

To say that what could be the ultimate example of the most iconic and popular wet pet on the planet is worth less than the bucket its transported in is not only ignorant, but offensive as well. That being said, I would like to thank everyone for sharing their opinions because after all we are here to learn from each other.

Off course I do believe,
I've seen you do this a few times and thought it was an accident. But this is like the 6th time so I have to comment on it. Of is spelled with one f. Two f's makes it an entirely different word. Just FYI.

Like I said, everyone has different taste in fish. It shouldn't offend you. I hate tarantulas. But that doesn't mean I hate people who keep tarantulas. A persons opinion of an animal has nothing to do with you, therefore you shouldn't be offended unless they directly attack your pet and insult you for owning it.

Like you said, everyone is different so we have different standards for what we consider offensive. I personally dont understand how some people can trash oscars and act like theyre worthless, and I wonder if they hate dogs and cats too.

True.

This thread is rediculous and full of so much BS i'm shocked to wake up and see it still active. OP got offers from free to $100 - sell the damn thing for $100 and be done with it.

And next time put a tape measure on the Oscar and post a pic without 6-7" Anchor worms hanging on the back tail. Without TRUE proof your Oscars normal and houses parasites.

This has become the worst thread ever. I'm surprised it's not been closed yet. It's a shame that so many members of this community feel the need to throw their weight around. Obviously some people like the sound of their own voice. I'm sure even this post will attract a five paragraph rant littered with cheap insults.
Just to clarify, I'm not a massive oscar lover, I just appreciate them for what they are. I just believe that a unique fish is worth more than a common one. Whether it be an oscar, peacock bass, arowana it doesn't matter. I have no reason to believe the OP is lying so I'm sure an 18" wild caught oscar is worth more than a 12" common oscar.

That's just my opinion so if anyone does not agree that is not a problem. I will not be responding to any more pathetic insults targeted at myself or UK fish keepers in general. You know nothing about me or my country so don't pretend you do. You know who you are so don't bother attempting to communicate with me in any way. I can see what kind of people you are.

Is this Oscar still for sale? In my area a large specimen like this (assuming it is healthy) would sell for approx. $125 to $ 175 and would most likely find a home at that price.

I'm still waiting to see a pic of an oscar bigger than 12" sitting on a measuring tape or ruler to remove all doubt, and until I do I'm going to be very sceptical of anyone who claims to have one over a foot. Same goes for clown loaches, everyone claims to have seen a monster one, but no pics to prove it....

Oh, David. Plenty of Oscars hit the 14 and 15 inch mark regularly. Mine is only 13" but I can get a picture if you want. I'll lay him in a tray and next to a ruler, and try to slide him alongside the ruler as best I can.
