How much is this worth?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Id say 250-300 is a reasonable price for all of that, but i got my 405 for 250 tank, stand , lids, and plumbing.

thanks for all the great feedback people :)

People shouldnt be buying tanks then if they are strapped for cash. Using the ecomomy as an excuse is stupid. If people wanna be lowballers look somewhere else. If they dont have the cash cause of the economy, then dont buy fish tanks.

you misunderstand the problem, its not the buyers, its the sellers, 55g is a fairly popular tank size and i see quite a few of them for sale, fairly high supply and relatively low demand has made a 55g tank fairly cheap

also you should always just check your local classifieds (pennysaver, craiglist, for sale section on here) because the prices are different in all the areas this site represents

My wife pays 1$ a gallon per tank, 1$ gallon per stand. No more than 110$ for your setup MINUS the extras. All the rest is severely under "new" value. She just got a 210 for free, 2 75's that look new for 100$, and some other tanks for free. I am into cars, and it's the same thing, you WILL NOT get out of it what you put into it. It's a hobby!!! Who cares!!! I have "lost" tons of cash on my stuff, but if I break it down into a $ per day amount , It's easier to rationalize. Ie, if I spent 3000 bucks on say, a beater 65 impala, and I had it for 3 years, it's less than a dollar a day! If I sell it for 500$ after 3 years - hell whats that 70 cents a day or something? You can't forget about the cost of a smile!! Money lost? No way. Sell it to someone who wants it BAD if you need the cash, you will complete the karma circle. It aint about money. But more SURE would be nice...........

it's going to be pretty hard to get it at the price you want. as someone said most of the time you will NOT get everything you pay for. only time you really make back the money or make profit is when its something rare that your selling. otherwise you wont get what you paid for. honestly its going to be hard selling it at the price you want. the best thing you should do is sell everything seperately. not a lot of people are willing to buy the whole setup and pay that much. but i might be wrong you might find someone that doesnt know anything about this hobby to pay top money. as someone said this is a hobby its for enjoyment you will lose money but its part of the hobby. i would suggest you to part everything out if you want to make maximum money.

Well guys. I the reason for this thread was i was wondering your opinions on the price. I may want to sell it much later. But not anytime soon, i was just curious. And i never ever ever said that i thought i was going to get what i put into it back. I have never thought that once in my life. But anyway. Thanks for all the feedback. :-)

I figured you were just trying to see if you paid too much by the way you were describing the components...
For example "almost new" and "used for 1 week" are terms people use to describe used parts...
One thing you will find out, USED is just that, USED,
as in, not NEW and the price of said component has depreciated.
Even if a component was sold and the box opened and brought right back, it has de-valued some.

I have a question for you...How much DID you pay for this set-up?

I got the tank, stand hood lights filter for 100 bucks. Then, the sand and the rocks were 20, the heaters i got free from a friend, the fish i raised from fry. (so free). The pump i got for 30, and the pvc cost about 10. And the ecco eheim, i got a long time ago for a different tank. It broke and then i fixed it. So i wont even count that in the cost :p

So about 160 bucks is what i payed. Plus a lot of elbow greese. :)

Id say that was a fair deal dont you :)

Does anybody want to see a pic of the tank? Its not finished but its getting there.

Ok, good to know. Ill post some pics as soon as i get a moment to try to take a few decent pics.
