How much is too much rock?

cichlids _killer tanks look good. What exactly does the eggcrate do? Do I still put gravel over it? I was hoping to make a RFUGF system. This way I won't have to vacuum very often if at all. Thanks everyone for the feedback. I can't wait to set up the tank (next week).

Eggcrate spreads the weight of the rock, and prevents pin points of weight on the bottom glass. Yes you cover it with substrate, but might need a bit more than normal to ensure that you can cover it easily.

Weight wise you are fine.
Too thick of a rock bed can cause nitrate problems though.

How do rocks cause nitrate problems?

those are flat rock ...its will not fall. dont worried and with eggcrate on the bottom .its will be fine.


those rock on the pic above is not flat more chance to fall if there a war in my tank ...

yea gravity make ANYTHING fall ..if you live in cali4nia ( earthquake )
rock in the tank will not fall by itself...unless you do waterchange or some and touching the rock then yea...i got whole lot more rock then trent and a koralia #3 blow left and right never have any rock fall...

How do rocks cause nitrate problems?

The actual rocks don't cause the problems.
If the rock bed is too think, it can be difficult to clean it throughly and organic waste builds up.

Here is a picture of the rock before and after being cleaned and then a pic. of what it will look like in the tank. I think it will be fine. I just resealed the tank so I have to wait till next week to finish.
