I can take some. All you need is a 5 gallon bucket (or 40 gallon Brute trash can), drill a bunch of holes in the bottom and have it above the tank or sump, so the water flows in the top and out the bottom.
I have a plastic 55 gal. sitting around that I could use, how much flow do I need going through? I have some Rio's sitting around that don't use to much juice. Can I use something like Lava Rock instead of balls? Like a dummy I gave 20 gallons of them away last summer.

Any pics of the barrel set up and a diy fluidized sand bed?

Sorry it took me so long. Here's a very basic set up. 5 gallon bucket with holes drilled in the bottom, full of bioballs and a fitting drilled through the top. The hose is coming off the main pump after it passes through UV. This set up uses a skimmer pump and a main pump. The main splits in two: 1 for the chiller then to the tank, 1 for the UV, then into the bioballs, which gravity feeds back into the sump.

well then i can do the same with a 55 gallon plastic drum and ALOT of bio balls. I like the blue tub, is it plastic or fiberglass?
