How much Media is enough ?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I knew my system can handle 250x Exodon Paradoxus (started out with 250) bio load for at least 2 years in 125 gallons before I sold them all (they are at 3.5 inches) WC 20% every week, clean pre-filter mechanical chamber every 2 days, at the time I sold them I hand counted I got 237x Exodon left, they were fed 3x times a day with automated system (bloodworm on weekend for treat) to keep them well fed so they don't turn and salvage each other.

I'm with the guy who said we probably all have way more bio media than we need. And then when you figure in that BB live on substrate, driftwood, rocks--maybe we don't need any bio-media at all. AND, some people on here water change so often, I don't see how they have anything in their water to feed BB.

I have a 2262 attacked with 4l Eheim Mech pro and 11l marine pure spheres running on a300l with 250no macropore.

Also have a sponge filter, and a1800l/h power filter for catching poop....TOTAL OVERKILL
