how much rockwork can a tank hold?

When I had an African cichlid tank I had about 180 lbs in a 90 gallon. If you go to Lowe's or home depot you can get Lighting Grid to put on the bottom of your tank to distribute the wait better. It is plastic grid that is 1/2" thick 1/2"X1/2" grid squares. Put that on the glass, rocks on it, then sand/substrate to cover it up.

that's what most refer to as "egg-crate".

I will add that egg creat is great for keeping sand movers and holes makers from digging holes so big dor the rock work to fall over. I had this problem in a african cichlid tank where i had to redo rock work all the time cause with all the digging they would fall over so the egg crate will prevent this if you put it a bit higher between the substrate not all the way at the bottom.
