This is kind of a multy purpose question we have a 150g tank with Mono's in it and we have 9 cups of salt in it. In this tank we have several Clown loaches some Vic's,plecos, malawi's and afew CA's how close to brackish are we? As of this time the fish are all doing great I honestly feared the loaches would suffer but they seem to love it. The salt we use is salt straight from a salt mine in Saskatwan Canada we paid 100 dollars for 400 pounds of it. This salt is all natural and is apink color the biggest draw back is the cloudy apperance to the water when added. So what do other people use and how much per tank?

Same salt, only use when I see a hurt fish, some type of healing needing to happen

i use morton's solar salt crystals..about $4 for 40lbs, about three cups in my 340 gallon

I don't use salt as a general rule. For ich, I'll do that if the fish can't stand the higher temps. I used it with mollies when I just kept them in a tank.

I don't use any salt for fresh water fish unless they have ich, or something a little salt might help with.
For brackish fish I try to bring my salinity up to at least 3ppt (parts per thousand).
Most fish have a tolerance for one or the other, just as most fish tolerate a bit of temp difference.
Is this tolerance optimum? Most organisms can survive, but thrive, that is the real question.
