How much sand for a 180

50 pounds is enough for a 75, which is 6 square feet, so 100 pounds should be adequate for a 180, which is 12 square feet.

It really depends on your personal preference. I like to have several inches of sand in mine.:)

250 lbs in my 180 3inches or so. 72x24 bottom

Easy method to figure out how much sand you want: Divide the tank volume by its height to get how many gallons it takes to fill it an inch deep. Then decide how many inches deep you want the sand and multiply it by the first number. Then divide by 3.75 (the number of gallons of sand in a 50 lb. bag) to see how many bags you need. So, if your tank is 30" high and you want 2" deep sand,

((180/30)*2)/3.75=3.2 bags.

Round up to 4 bags and there you are!

Dry pool filter sand weighs just shy of 100 lbs per cubic foot…

Therefore 100 lbs of pool filter sand will put 1” of sand across 12 square feet…

100 lbs = 1”
150 lbs = 1.5”
200 lbs = 2”
Etc…
