How much should i feed my goldfish

I just got a gold fish. i think its an ornada. it has a big head and the tail is flared out in the shape of a triangle.

i read that you should feed the fish as much as it can eat in 3 minutes but my gold fish goes up and down in the water after it eats and i was wondering whats a good amount to feed it. the gold fish is about 5 inches long 1 1/2 inches wide and around 2 inches tall.
 
welcome; mrillusive .. I often subscribe to the theory that a 10 oz steak 3 times a day will be sufficient.

Why do I always say that?

I would suggest a pinch , then another if it is consumed in less than a minute. You wont starve him. go to 3 pinches if the second is consumed in less that a minute as well.

many GF will just keep eating, others will let the excess drop. This causes other concearns so remove xtra food.
 
3 minutes is fine, and give at least 3 meals a day. Don't over feed, orandas and other round bodied goldfish are prone to swimbladder diseases if overfed.
Goldfish has very short intestines that's why it good to give small but frequent feedings.
 
ive got goldfish and koi's bro.. i feed them 2 full pinches of granules 3x a day he should be fine if u feed him 1 full pinch per meal since he's just alone. if u see in my sig my koi's and goldfish are all crowded up in my 15g but they are happy LOL i would transfer them somewhere when my new tanks arrive :)

goodluck on ur goldfish just dont overfeed him. and oh yeah i see this thing is common in goldfish or koi kinda funny too have u noticed that everytime u look at him he just dances in front of u begging for food? LOL even if he's full he still dances and begs for food and if u give him food he'd still eat it! LOL so my suggestion about it is dont give in when he dances around and begs for food just feed him when its meal time :)

like the others have said

feed the goldfish 3 times a day for 1-2 minutes instead of 3.

goldfish lack a true stomach and so have a long alkaline gut to digest food, its also very inefificient. so anything not digested will exit out the other end and foul the water quickly.
