So, I'm starting to look into building a very large pond/tank. I'd like it to be inside the garage for making insulation easier. However, I want to make sure that the floor of the garage could hold the weight of something like this. Minimum size I am looking at: 14'x6'x4'. I think I'm looking at 20,000+ lbs of just water, so easy 250 lbs/sqft plus all the weight of the actually building materials. Anyone with experience or knowledge on this subject?

I have no clue. What I do know is that concrete is based on PSI. So you would need to know what PSI was used for the home. Probably 3000PSI.

Easily. I'm pretty sure a 300lb pound dude can stand on a 1x1 square of garage floor and it'll be ok. Actually I'd be surprised if it DIDN'T work.

Good Luck! ;]

Here is a fun kicker. I really don't think we're going to be able to find that out. The house was built in 1951. The house was very well built and maintained, but I'm not sure there would be records of what type of concrete was used. Also, at that age, I'm not sure what kind of reinforcement was used in the concrete.

LOL. It would seem to me that the overall weight would affect it differently than just a single square foot with 300 lbs.

I wish I had this problem.

Oh, and medium-strength concrete 5'' thick, would typically fail at 4,000 pounds per square inch. Just some numbers to for you to play with. ;]

I believe it to be a 60 year old garage, but I can't say that I see a single crack in it. That's just not something you see usually in California. I'm going to have to do some more unspecting on the thickness of the concrete and see if I can find out for sure the age of the garage
