I've now built my stand for my 6x2x2 glass tank. I've overcooked it somewhat which is what i'd rather do for peace of mind. I've used joeys design where he uses 2x4's throughout his build. However when it came to putting in the actual support struts i used 2x6's instead. So i have ten 2x6's as my supports (2 in each corner and 2 in the middle). It's worth noting that the dimensions of my 2x4 and 2x6 are pretty much 2x4 and 2x6, hardly any shrinkage at all. Are there any clever clogs out there who can do the maths. It would be most reassuring to know.

how much would it support? At least two if not three aquariums of the same size as you have.

wood has incredible compression strength. you could have used 1x4 for the vertical supports and been just fine. especially if skinning with ply.

in short, it's PLENTY strong.

Yeah, i've done some rather haphazard calculations using a calculation i dug up on a very old thread. In short, you're probably dead right with the 1x4 support struts. The way my stand is built it would take over 10 tonnes minimum in weight!!!!! My tank will weigh around the 1 ton mark when fully set up. So i'm thinking of upgrading my tank already. Unfortunately i'm stuck with the 6x2 footprint but there's nothing to stop me going taller!! Anyone know where i can get a 6x2 footprint tank thats 20 foot tall!!! haha.

now THAT would need a bigger stand. lol.

I saw a guy build a 5 foot long stand where he used 2x8 for everything AND he supported it in the center. congrats I thought, now you will throw your back out moving your stand.

anyways.. that is a great size tank, what are you putting in there?

Haha thats hilarious, he must be even more paranoid than me!! The wife bought a 4" RTGG this time last year and i've had her in a 125 along with juvenile tinfoils, balas and clown loach. She's 11" now so she'll be going in the new tank on her own. I know that a 6x2x2 is a bit on the small side for her, i may need to go bigger, i'll see how things go with her in her new tank for a while.
