How Much Would/Did You Pay For An Engagement Ring?

now This was 7 years ago, but I paid 650 for a small 1/4 carat engagement ring. Upgraded the wedding ring and I think the upgrade for that was around 2700. I got a better job after we got engaged so we could afford the upgrade. But I will say she still loved the engagement ring when I gave it to her. So don't spend more than you can on it. Don't be a miser for no reason either. If she's the one she'll love whatever you get her, but at the same time if she's the one she's worth giving a few things up for (car upgrade, computer upgrade, that cool tank you've been eyeing etc, luxuries, not essentials.)
 
I paid just under $8K. 1 carat round cut diamond, platinum setting. It is beautiful and she lives it, but I can't help but think that there would've been better ways to spend that money.

I think I spent around $10k on the engagement ring and another $1k on the band. Supposedly all custom and what not. Do I wish the money was spent else where, yep. Wife was ecstatic as anything so makes me happy. Its all about what you want to spend and can afford without killing all your finances. I had a decent amount saved and decided to my route.
