Oh yeah, and NOT to listen to Walmart for fish keeping advice! They told me to get about 5 goldfish for my 20 gallon. Yeah, didn't know any better at the time so I listened to them! OMG! Lesson learned!!

wal mart fish keepers are nothing but out of season garden center employees. they think a large fish tank is a 55gal and a cool and aggressive fish is a oscar. they are puppy dogs compared to the fish that mfk lovers keep. want good advice look online because even pet shops tell you a lot of b/s when first getting into the hobby i was told by a pet shop that a red devil was a african river fish. i knew better and i learned not to ask for advice about fish and just do your homework before you buy .

everyone has there personal preference on cycling. i use rosy reds during a cycle period. then throw in whatever fish im gonna have in the tank jus a few days after. i've never had issues. 10+ years in fish keeping.

Thats probably cuz your fish were hardy and unhealthy after your amonia and nit's went to hell, im suprised he dident die.

to do a fishless cycle go out and buy the stuff i forget what its called ( bio spira i think)
To cycle a tank with fish i.e goldfish, feeders, w/e leave that or those fish in there untill the tank is stable o amonia etc... Then take those fish out and add your fish slowly. i would do 1 fish per week. or 3 fish per 4 weeks.

I use this method and my tanks are perfect.

imho though dont get filter with a biowheel. they suck

when you say HE you mean all my fish for the past 10 years? i must have a great eye for selecting hardy fish that become unhealthy after everything yet live for 3+ years and still growing. its my way of doing it, but thats just me... i've never lost a fish to a un-cycled tank. but i dont cycle like any of you guys. i've only lost fish to a bigger one eating a smaller one. never to any kind of sickness.

I do fishless with ammonia.

Pure ammonia, no additives.
Add 3-4 drops/10 gallons every day until ammonia spikes,
keep adding until Nitrites spike,
once Nitrite spikes, cut ammonia addtions in half.
Wait it out until Ammonia and nitrite go to zero, with nitrates around 80 ppm
Do a 80% water change without vacuuming gravel.

Add fish.

Takes about 2 weeks.

No, i mean they were hardy for the first couple of weeks than when everything cycled out they were fine.

a few roosies in a tank for a couple days isent enough to cycle a tank imo

Sometimes I piis in my friends tank when im drunk and cant find the toilet, but I dont think that it helps at all.
