Do you guys change out your mechanical media at all? I just got another aquaclear 110 for my 125 and I realized how clean it was compared to the mech media in my old 110. Should I get new media. The old 110 is like 3-4years old now.

No reason to ever get new sponges in an AC110, just clean them out thoroughly.

Thanks you guys just curious.

I've only had an ac 110 for a few months so I don't know about them, but on my fluval 405s and 205 I replace the sponges about once a year because they begin to shrink and just fall out of their slots. Do the ac 110 spronges shrink?

I change out my pillow batting every couple weeks too, alternating between my two filters so I'm changing one every time I do a WC. As for the sponges in my fluval I haven't changed yet in the year that I've owned it, just rinse them out regularly.

Change or don't change. Really depend on how much biomedia you have other than the sponge/filter floss.
If you have tons and don't mind the cash, feel free to change them out. Else a quick rinse in tank water should do.

Well, I believe I have enough beneficial bacteria that if I wanted too I could replace the media but I wanted to know if there was any harm to re-using them which it dosen't look like there is. As mentioned the aquaclear 110 media are pretty tough and durable and since it's my main source of mechanical filtration I rinse them every couple weeks anyway.
