How often do you change mechanical media?

I had an AC110 on a 75gal which I sold. Had the same sponge for almost 2 years. I used the blue filter pad as the 1st layer of mech filtration which helped to keep the sponge cleaner and last longer. You could also use poly or felt.

I usually rinse and beat the crud out of my Eheim coarse sponge and ac sponge. I toss the filter floss if nasty stuff get entangled in the floss and I'm to lazy to rinse it all out. Floss is cheap.
