i voted that i change it every year but really im just moving things around till i can find that right set-up that im happy with, i have sold some fish in the past when i was changing set-ups but i always miss them and wish i could have kept them, like right now before i went the geo route i was contemplating trying to buy back some of my fish from a guy i sold them to but went a different way, but really miss some of the fish that i had like my vontehillo and festae juvie, just wish i had another large tank where i could keep them all then i wouldnt get rid of any of them

I can see letting go of a fish here and there because it just did not work out. I have had to let go some fish that were to bossy for my others. I did sell a geo but I got that fish as a rescue. I was just its foster mom. One time I got a medusa Pleco never saw the stupid thing all I saw was its poop. So I brought it back to the store. beside that I have some 4 yr old fish. Most are just 1 yr.

For the most part my fish stay till the end. That's why we are on monster fish keepers because we can't let go. So we have to go bigger and bigger in tank size haha.

thanks for the answers.

I keep some and sell some....usually buy more than I need at a time and pick the stunners out of the group. Most of the fish I have now are atleast a year old. But I have gone through my share.....Ive got most of what I want now.

If I had a garage or a fish room Id have a lot more. Space is more of an issue.

I keep most of my fish until they pass. The exception would be when I sell fry that I've bred. The silver dollars in my tanks are all 15+ years old...just lost one this week, though. :(

I just buy more tanks. But now Im out of flat space so I am building a new house and a new fish room. So my stock changes but it gets sorted out into new tanks

I voted 'other'. I will replace fish if I lose fish, which is pretty rare. I also get fish from different sources...I do still do the occasional "impulse buy" if I see something cool at the lfs so I'll buy it and see if it works out. If not then I'll trade it in.

However I also get some fish from online sources like reputable people on Aquabid and vendors on this site. Those fish I won't part with unless I get multiples to find a pair and then I'll trade or sell the extras if I don't have any other space for them.

if they don't get along then i have to get rid of the one that is causing the problems....
