How often do you clean your canister filters?.

There is very little food going to waste.

Actually it is all going to waste, after the fish have digested it.

This is part of the reason I prefer sumps over canisters for larger tanks, cleaning two small canisters on my 400L tank is more than enough hassle for me! When I ran an FX5 I filled the top basket with wool and every water change I'd simply lift the lid and replace it, then give the sponges a rinse every second or third clean.

Only when the flow becomes less. With a big eheim, that is 1-2 years. For a sump: never.

Every couple months in the summer, only once or twice during the winter. Was doing it every couple weeks until I realized it was overkill...went back to long intervals now.
