i think i might not be caring for mine properly. i got him at about 2 inches and fed him very little because i didnt know better. soon my sister realized that the more you feed him the more he eats and i started feeding him tons of carnivore pellets twice a day and he grew pretty rapidly. then i read that once they grow up they only need to be fed once or twice a week and now hes about 7 inches and thats all i feed him, but ive noticed hes been growing really slow because he went from 2 to 5 inches really fast and it took a long time to get from 5 to 7 inches. am i feeding him too little?

For an RTC that size (still just a tiny baby.. if you look hard enough you should be able to see the soother in it's mouth it's still so young) they will and can eat multiple times a day untill they look like they swallowed a golf ball... once they hit a foot or so then it's once a day ... around the 18" mark I slowed mine to every other day but natrually after they hit around the 20-24" mark they will slow themselves down and won't want to eat as often...if you under feed then you will stunt it's growth which causes it's own set of problemsyemista;2096796; said:

i fed mine everyday until he/she hit the 2 feet mark. in fact, wen u realise growth starts to slow..then u feed them every other day. if they conttinue growing fast u wana take advantage of the spurt by feeding them !!!
mine started growing slow because i guess i was starving him. hell always eat what i put in but i thought he was being overfed. do you i think i could have hurt him long term? i think hes been fed like this for abotu 5 months. i raelized it when everyoen is saying it gets to 1ft or 18 inches in a year and mine shoudl be bigger than it is for how long ive had it.
twice to three times a week shrimp mostly and once in a while hotdogs, steak, or chicken and feeders which really is not to much in protein so I like to only give this to them as a treat once a month or so. I have to buy him 3" comets or better do to the smaller ones slip thru his gills lol
