How often do you siphon your substrate?

I'm using pool filter sand and I noticed after adding a bunch of driftwood into my tank, my cichla were doing a lot better. Their markings are darker and they eat way more. They're not as skittish and come racing to the glass every time someone walks by. I siphon my sand every time i do a water change.

so the drift wood make their marking more darker? that's why my cichla have a pale marking specially my orino, maybe i should add some wood

KIt really depends on how many fish you have in a tank and how often you feed them. I like to do clean the substrate as a do water changes. Really give me fish tank a proper cleaning.

You should syphon your gravel with every water change.

Drift wood actually softens aquarium water. This will make some cichla feel a little closer to home thus the bolder markings and coloration.

Yes but with me driftwood gets this fuzzy stuff on it I mean it looks good but I don't like the fuzzy stuff
