The primevil question. How often should we? I suppose it depends on tank size, stocking level and filtration doesnt it?

I have a 50 Gallon tank (65 USA gallons)
I have a 1200 LPH cannister filter +
A waterfall unit of 650 LPH

Total turnaround give or take 1850LPH so approaching what, near 10X filtration.

In a years time when i Move house im getting at least double size of current tank.

At the moment i'd say im well stocked really...maybe a bit over

I have

6 Silver Bala Sharks (small they are about 3.5inch each just now)
5 Clown Loaches (2 inch each just now)
1 Syno featherfin Cat (3.5 inches long)
1 Common Plec (6 inches long just now)
And a small shoal of 6 green barbs.

How often do you think I should water change? At moment I do 50percent weekly.
I was doing it 50percent Bi-weekly but i found i got no algae growth which plecy loves along with cucumber.

Please reply with your thoughts and about your setup and water changes.

Steve

I do 50% weekly.

IMO I think water changes should be done at least once a week, about 50%.

I do 50% water changes every three days on all of my tanks. My fish seem to thrive and I haven't had any issues with illneses or what not for forever.

20-30% twice weekly. that's what I do, anyway.

there was someone on here a while back saying they test the water regularly and only do waterchanges when the nitrates get above whatever level they deemed to be acceptable. that caught some flak from a few on here; but to me, it makes sense. why do water changes every other day, if it takes a week for nitrates to get to .05?

that said, I don't even keep a water test kit. I just do WCs/substrate vacs twice a week.

There are other reasons to change water frequently. There are hormones and other things than can't be tested for by a standard master test kit.

50% every week on my 210g. even if its overkill, it keeps my water crystal clear which i love

i do 20-30% water change every week on my little tanks but im planning to do 50% on my 150 when its set up

jk my mom said if i do that im paying for the water bill
ill do 40%

2x50% a week
