hey there fellow long islander. where do you go for your supplies? I am still looking around craigs list for my tank/stand setup but in the meanwhile I am looking for a good LFS to go to. I have been to the place on Sunrise in Lindenhurst and BFG Jungle or whatever its called in Islip. Any other places you suggest?

Hey Jeremy,

sounds like your a Suffolk county guy from the places you have been.
There are a couple stores in Nassau that are ok.

Aquarium Adventure in Glen Cove (Glen Cove Road just north of Old Country Road) have the best selection of fish but are Expensive. Nice Selection of tanks too but i spent a fortune there on my 240 Gallon And FX5 filters only to find them much cheaper elsewhere. so i only buy fish there now.

There is another great selection of fish at a small mom and pop fish store on Old Country road in Hicksville called Tropical showcase 372 West Old Country Road, Hicksvill. The owners are rude and unlikeable but sometimes they have some really hard to find fish. Also expensive on supplies however.

For Cheap Tanks, PETCO has a $1 a gallon sale usually once a year witch is a great deal (I think they just had it about 2 months ago)

Pet Supplies Plus (All over long island) have great prices for Supplies and Food (Food Being half the cost compared to Aquarium adventure) and Decent prices on Fish tanks worth checking out. I will go here if i need something quick however the one near me does not have frozen food.

I am also a fan of DR FOSTER AND SMITH website, if your buying a decent amount of supplies / food you will save money but if you only need a couple items shipping will kill you. When i buy from Dr Foster its usually a $150-$200 order of foods that will last a LONG time.

Thanks a lot I appreciate the input. I am actually from Nassau County (Farmingdale) and currently on my way to check out Aquarium Adventure with a friend. Still looking for my tank/stand setup on craigslist.org but once I find one I wanna have a LFS to buy whatever I need from. As far as prices, I don't mind paying a little more if I know what I'm getting is a good hearty fish ya know?

Looking for a 100-125 gallon setup for now as I am only a 21 year old college student. Gonna start with a basic cichlid/stingray setup but well see what happens.

Thanks again!

$75 TO $100 WOULD HAVE BEEN NICE. BUT IMO TO BUY A HEALTHY RAY ON-SPOT WITH A COUPLE MILE RIDE IN A CAR HOME MIGHT BE WORTH IT.

NOW I JUST NEED A FEMALE SO THEY CAN START BUILDING MY BANK ACCOUNT INSTEAD OF DRAINING IT LOL
THANKS FOR THE ADVICE!

Bad thing is, you'll never make enough to even cover the food costs with just a pair of motoros. Your bank account's going to be draining for a while LOL.

Let me know how you like Aquarium Adventure. They have a sick looking baby African Tiger Fish there. if you got that bad boy, you would be my hero.

Just got back, I could have spent the whole day there haha
They have a beautiful tiger oscar and that ray for $8,000 is a beauty as well.

Def going to be buying my stock and equipment from them once I get my setup.

I can vouch for that. I have two females right now and growing one more out. You definatley dont get your money out of them even with what i have. I just think its great to be able to get them to bred a bred WELL. If i had more room to build more tanks and expand than maybe so. But any ways it a hell of a good time. I feed my mating rays once a day and my pups twice a day. Good luck on yours.

Hey,

Glad you found some nice stuff there. They sent me in the Mail a I believe 25% off of tanks and accessories coupon. If you are going to spend big bucks PM me and i will Scan the Coupon and email it to you if you like. (i can scan it tomorrow because it is home now and i am at work in Queens)

I would greatly appreciate that. I am still searching for a setup on craigslist and once I get that I'll see what I need. I think I'll just suck it up and spend the money on the fluva fx5.
