How often should I change the water?

Don't know about everyone else but I figure out my WC amounts and frequency by testing the water as no 2 tanks are the same arbitrary numbers 15% here 45% there scare me.
Once cycled there should be no ammonia or nitrite but things can happen. I set schedule amount/frequency to what it takes to keep nitrate below 40ppm and near 20 ppm for my plants. If ammonia and/or nitrite is present I do what it takes to keep them below .25ppm and as close to 0 as possible till cycle is fixed and back to 0, 0, 20 where I want it.
You really need to base it off your own tank and tests not someone elses schedule because no 2 tanks accumulate waste/toxins at the same rate.
