How often should I feed?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The knife will eat bottom feeder pellets that I drop in for my catfish but they are so small it just docent seem like much I'm trying to grow him out for my bigger tank I'm looking for good healthy growth

And I feed my aro one shrimp at a time if it falls he won't eat it he never eats off the bottom. I feed him crickets but only on days I go to my lfs because the girlfriend hates them and docent like me to keep them at the house so I only buy what he will eat as soon as I dump them in but he is starting to get drop eye on one side iv read a lot on treating drop eye but nothing seems to counter act it but that's the way it goes some times I guess if anyone has any success stories on helping counter drop eye I'd love to hear I'm not interested in doing the surgery I see some people doing just not worth it IMO don't trust myself enough lol

As its a silver then not much can stop it anyway no matter what you do
I think it's something to do with the size they get to and the amount of reflections you get in tanks but the truth is no one knows for sure

I feed Solely giant meal worms dropped in one at a time offered daily

I find its best to feed only insects and never let the aro take food from the tank floor

If feel drop eye is caused by aro taking food from the tank base and a non insect diet which they would mainly eat in the wild

I drop in one giant meal worm if the aro doesn't take it I then try again the next day

I also find aros don't eat as much the older they get
Mine will eat for one full month about 30 giant meal worms per feed everyday then not eat anything the next month
The good thing with meal worms is you can feed the worms anything you want the aro to eat

Is this new? I thought you fed massivores pretty much only to your aro

I like to layer feed my tank if everything eats different foods then you get less conflict

Rays = pellets and prawn
Big tiger = pellets and lance fish if I put in loads of pellets the tiger won't eat any he just takes one Massivore dropped in one at a time
Tigrinus and barbs = anything the other fish miss
Aro = giant meal worms dropped in one at a time

I have always fed like this if you have aro and tiger fish going for the same food it causes aggression

Nice..seems like i've always had a different thing to feed each species for most meals. I wish I could open up a bag of pellets, whip a handful in there & all is taken care of. Time consuming it is, but worth it...My aro used to eat almost every day. Now that he is much older he eats every 3 to 5 days usually (sometimes longer). I wait till he stares at me as I approach the freezer. He'll be in the corner of the tank staring & snaking his body around all excited. This lets me know he's ready to pound! 1 thawed jumbo market prawn or tilapia chunk followed up by superworm after superworm thrown in (1 at a time) till 1 reaches the bottom & he quits. If it's not superworms, it's thawed crickets. Back n forth between the 2. Got my own fishfood only chest freezer so my lady don't freek.lol

See I cant never let my fish get that hungry
Unless I feed heavy twice per day it's carnage

Man, you must not be able to leave the house for a day T1...or you got a really dependable fish babysitter which I certainly need at times for extended periods

I'm at home 24/7 and feed when I get up at around 11am then feed again at 8pm

My aro is very very fussy
I start feeding at 8pm with all the foods mentioned my lights go to main lights off at 8.30pm but still have a dim light on until 9.30pm
If I offer the aro food at 8.10 he won't eat if I offer food to him at 8.15pm he won't eat but at the stroke of 8.20pm he will eat as many meal worms as he can before 8.30pm when main lights go out now that's what I call fussy
Even if he hasn't had for for 1 week unless it's at 8.20pm he won't eat OCD

That really is amazing T1. My aro loves to gorge at night with no sunlight coming in & the tv on. He loves those conditions for some reason. I would say anywhere from 8pm till close to dawn is his primetime
