How often water change?

My rule of thumb is 50% every week no matter the stock or size of tank.
 
I've had no trouble with any Water Para. most people do 50% water changes, and since I have lots of Bichirs and Ropes they eat quite messy so really it's necessary for me.
 
i do wc almost everyday hence the multiple setups... lol but 1 wc each week for each tank. 30% on the smaller tanks and 55% on the monster tanks.
 
10 gallon out of my 120 gallon tank every 3 days.
 
I have 2 90's I change 30 gal each tank every 5 days... A friend of mine has a huge endli and ornate and he's mad lazy and changes the water prob every 2 months and they are both healthy
 
we do 10% weekly over here other wile the water is crap. 50% would kill the nitrifying bacteria. I have kept a lot of fish for well over 20 years now in a few diff country's and currently run over 400 tanks. So i am not talking crap.
 
Need more infomation


  • Stock size
  • Tank size
  • Heavily planted/Planted/Non-planted
  • Nitrate levels in tap water
  • Nitrate levels of tank water
Basically you just calculate how much nitrate raise each week and do the amount of water change to reduce that nitrate level back to where it was last week or lower
