How Often Would You Cycle Change

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm assuming in your tank :D I do 50% 1 time a week.

If you bathe in it I'd do it more often.

You may want this thread in the General Fish Section.....but you syphon the water out and put new water back in. Just make sure the new water temp matches the tank water and its clean enough.

and suck the gravel every now and then.

Of course with your size tank there may be a much better way. I just have a 100 gallon so......

I use a homemade python to vacuum the sand and siphon water out, usually do 30-40% twice a week and a smaller 15-20% in between the 2 bigger changes. Then fill the tank back up with same temp water as was already mentioned and put in some tap water treatment for the chlorine/chloramine while the tank is filling. Been doing it this way for about 2 years and so far so good :D

Before using your tap water it might be a good idea to run it through a test just to match up the pH of the tap and your tank along with hardness.
Once I set up an african tank I'm going to have to age the water to bring up the hardness for those guys as my tap water is pretty soft.

How do you age water?

how do you get the tap water to the same temp as the water in the tank how do you know?
