asking if they get a food like that in the wild is asinine. you are correct in that some nutrients are inevitably lost in the cooking process, but there isn't an appreciable amount lost to make a noticeable difference in the fish (at least without cutting them open...and even in doing that i have not noticed major differences). the reason the 'do they get it in the wild' comment is pointless is because they don't get marine shrimp in the wild either...they don't get large prawns, and if you think about pellets, they aren't getting spirulina or a lot of the other components in the wild...for those who feed feeders, there is no Polypterus that is going to get native goldfish in the wild either (or rosies or guppies).
when you are taking on a fish in captivity, you must dismiss the "what do they get in the wild" issues to some extent, and start thinking about the basic compounds. they require protein, carbohydrates, and fats in similar balance to the wild, or at least in proportions that will keep them healthy in captivity--
