How Often?

Just recieved my almond leaves yesterday from "pets and ponds canada". They claim the leaves are good for a couple of months before they start to fall apart and even if they do not the tannis/beneficial effects will not last longer than a few months. There's a good write up on their site.

Link please! :D

I'm a luddite when it comes to providing links, you'll have to go to google "petsandponds.com" and click on water treatment at the bottom of the page, hope you find it worthwhile.

Found it, thanks! :)

wow, expensive. I get mine from amy's ketapang off ebay. grade D is the best deal if you don't care about getting whole leaves. 6$ gets me a years worth of leaves.
I have pond snails, MTS, and/or mysteries in my tanks, so I replace them when the soft parts are gone.
takes about 3-4 weeks for 3 leaves to become framework.
when I had cherry red shrimp, they'd eat them too.

I'll have to look it up, I can get them here for $2.99 a bag. I don't know to much about the grade quality, but if it has anything to do with the fullness of the leaves, then no I don't really mind.

BTW - You wouldn't happen to have the link, would you?!

There was an article on this in Tropical Fish Hobbyist a few months back. Basically, any non toxic hardwood tree leaves can be used. I used maple leaves in my tank, as did JK47. Almond leaves are great, but maple leaves were free for me. ;)

I have two pear trees, and a large cherry tree in my backyard. I guess I wouldn't mind using them, but I would probably have to flash boil the leaves to prevent any kind of contamination. Does anyone know if either cherry, or pear leaves are non toxic?
