I've always wondered how long a pleco can live. What's the longest you've had your pleco for? It can be any type of pleco.

I had a Gibby for 6 years and the guy befor me had it for 5 years i sold it to a friend 4 months ago for a breeding fish, it was still a very healthy strong fish evan at 11 years old i think she would of lasted at least another 4+ years.

Just a guess but I'd say average lifespan of most plecos is about 10 years (give or take), providing that they are kept in reasonably good conditions.

They can get much older.
A friend of mine has a gibbiceps that he has had for more than twenty years.
Myself I have three pecklotia sp. that is 13-14 years old.

I don`remember who told me, but this guy had talked to an ichthyolog who had collected a panaque sp. in Brazil that was 32 years old!

A gibby can get as old as 40, sometimes more. I'm not sure about the others as I'm most experienced with the gibby.

HAd some at 3 yrs but i had to sell them since they were getting bigger

i would guess a long time if you consider their growth rate with how larger alot of them get
