How Old Can They Get?

large plecos will live up to 40 years
however like anything in your tank their life span depends on long term water quality
long term exposure to pollution including cigarette smoke will obviously shorten life span...
nitrate in water over long periods will cause liver disfunction
etc...etc
they are like any animal I suppose except we're responsible for their quality of life
I believe in doing water changes every week for that reason, the fish get used to the activity aswell

except in the feeder fish tank :)
 
Any pet we have we are in charge of their quality of life... its just that fish seem to get the shaft most of the time, because people just don't know what they are getting into.

I just did it yesterday...I couldn't take the pressure and had to give in :swear:
 
that sux. one of the few things that seems to kill plecos... and sometimes even ich won't take down a common pleco.
