I am sorry but from what you said, your wife is nipping the fins off your male JD? Think you mean the female. how big is the tank they in? I find the females are more aggressive than the males.

I only have a wolf fish and jd in my 90. The wolf gets a little agro with the jd cause the jd likes to toy with him. The jd starts puffing his gills and tail smacking. It's actually funny to watch cause panic (the jd) is half the size of pain (the wolf)

Well they seem to like each others company and work as a team when hunting feeders. There's only been one serious attack from pain when the panic was first introduced but they been fine for almost three months now.
