125 gallon 6' tank with fluval 404 canister filter and regular water changes
(this will be their permanent home)

5 tinfoil barbs
4 silver dollars
2 kissing gourami
1 jack dempsey
1 green severum
1 common pleco
3 dojo loaches

Would this be considered overstocked????

I would say impossibly overstocked if thats your only filtration.

remember the barbs will get a foot long in that tank no problem if fed properly.

if you cut the number of barbs back to 3 or 4, doubled your filtration

and go with a 72x18x29.5" 165 gallon from Aqueon (they call it a 150 but its more) THEN you would probably be fine.

as is, I think down the road you will end up with water quality problems unless you change some stuff..

well right now I have the following fish with the 404 filled with only bio filtration. The tank stays clear with this setup.

5 tinfoils 4 x full grown 12-13", 1 x 3"
1 kissing gourami 5"
1 jack dempsey 7"
1 green severum 8"
3 dojos 2 x 7" 1 x 9"

what I would be adding would be the silver dollars, 1 kissing gourami, and pleco

I know plecos are messy but how are the silver dollars?

404 or for liek 40gal right?

cuz 405 or rated for 100....
you need a bider filter

the 404 is just an older version of the 405
it's rated at 100 gallons

After I read "5 tinfoil barbs" anything else would be overstocking on a tank sub 150g.

Those barbs will very quickly grow to 5-7" at about 1-2" width and 3-4"depth, lets do the math.

Assuming they're all midgets and not monsters, 5x1x3=15 gallons per fish. 15x5, 75 gallons, and that's a conservative first year.

If they're a little fatty, double the water you need. 5x2x3=30 gallons per fish.

If you get that random group of monsters quad it. 7x3x5=105 gallons per fish

That being said, Tinfoil barbs and all other barbus fish are filthy, we're talking Oscar filthy. So for your tank, 5 TF barbs are an overstock.

another thing is that tinfoil barbs grow very rapidly.

they should be 12" long in 10-12 months easily.

Do you all read the posts?

4/5 of the barbs are already 12", only one is 3".

-- As for the OP, I would at least add some more filtration at the very minimum. Even with the current stock.
