oh no i think everyone got the wrong idea. Sorry, i should've been more clear. I do 20-25% weekly, every 2 months or so I do a 40% waterchange.
With regular, even amounts of water changes, comes higher water stability. Check your nitrates, if at the end of the 25% water change that they are still above 20ppm, you arent changing enough.

i was also scared of ick when i got my CL, i keep the temp at 28 and do 25% weekly water changes and feed them good food. so far no ick

pretty prone i NEVER use common ick meds on my sensitive fish there mush more fatal then the ick its self use salt and raise the temp to cure ick on loaches use meds as a last resort

They are very prone to getting ich, however are pretty easy to treat, i have never lost a CL to ich and the only way i have treated it is with raising the temp/adding salt.

I had an outbreak of ich in my main display tank in december, i bought two 5-6 inch CL's, they both looked great, no sign of ich at all so i added them straight to my display :irked: . With smaller CL's that come the distributors i always quarantine for ~2-3 weeks though.

Most illnesses/diseases/deaths are due to stress, normally by other fish (overcrowding/aggression) or poor water conditions. If you keep good maintenance of your tanks, do not overcrowd your tanks or keep fish that are compatible with each other, you should have no problems. With that note, I had a slight occurrence of ich on 1 clown loach in my 55 gallon tank. I did not use any meds, but just raised the temp and added some salt (diluted in water and spread slowly over time). I also kept the lights on to about 2-3 hours per day, just for feeding. The reason is, ich is caused by stress. So if I kept the lights off, the fish would sleep, no stress. When we are sick, we normally rest to recover. The ich never spread to any other fish nor did I lose the loach or any other fish.

As far as WC, I now do about 40%-50% WC weekly in my 125 gallon tank. I used to do about 20%-30% in my 55 gallon tank.

Never had an ich breakout with my CL pack...knock on wood..Tank is kept at 84 f, biweekly water changes , lots of hiding places and high flow rates...seems to work for me so far...

Based on the responses so far, im due for a massive outbreak of ich..... Ive got three clowns in a 20 each are ~4.5" with 2 Indo dat (D. microlepis) and 6 otocinclus. I do a 25% water change once a month, and my water parameters are fine. This is because i only use natural decor, live plants and driftwood thats about a year old. For a filter ive got an Eheim 2215...turnover rate is about 8 times an hour.

I have had ich in the past, these were because i did not start using a quarentine tank until this past november...dunno why. In total from both outbreaks i have lost 1 clown. I raised the temp and started Melafix. I also used to add a pinch of salt with every water change which helped when i used to have a bunch of small fish.

I don't think they are more susceptible to getting ich. Mine rarely have an outbreak, I just think that they are more prone to die from it without proper treatment. Check your tank daily for signs and act fast. I have only lost 1 in two years to ich, and it was already sick with internal parasites.
