How should I aquascape my 6'

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Rocks , driftwood and sand. No plants with a black background. It's the only way.

HarlanAshmore....Your rocks are pink to me but that's fine because you impressed me with the talking fish.

No plants?? Wow. http://showcase.aquatic-gardeners.org/2008.cgi?&op=ishowcase&category=0&vol=3 Plants are great for tanks.

ANYWAYS I like your design, OP. It could be accented with a tiny amount of a single variety of stem plants in a bunch. Not quite a wall behind the stick. What really limits what plants you can have is the lighting... And the fish choices. Although big fishes might not eat plants, they make it difficult for them to settle. All of my moss is dead except for one or two strands. It got buried with sand or sucked up by the filter until it was dead.

Mmm, that piranha tank does look good!

Harlan, not too bad, dunno about the 'pile' of pink river rocks, but deffor some river rocks in there somewhere.
If u wanna do pirahna go to pics of pirahna and i dont rmember who it is but it is amazing.

the rocks arent pink alright

i would take some branch like pieces of driftwood, and attach some moss to them, invert them to look like "roots". Then i would add a bunch of amazon swords along the back as kind of a backdrop. i would also add black to the back so it makes the colors pop

They won't really be big fish, 1' max, plus they won't be really active.

Nah, not looking to go with pirahna. They are illegal here, and they don't really float my boat.

Yeah, I like that idea. I like branches and wood with moss on them. A fish shop I go to every now and then has got 3 clown knifefish with huge pieces of wood with moss and algae growing all over them. It looks spectacular. Looks like you just jumped into a blackwater asian stream, it looks soo natural.

I might go with black, maybe. At the moment it has a 3D resin background that I like, but it is a tad bulky, and fish get caught behind it often. I can get free black background, so no big there.

Maybe I should have some vallis streching across the back. I don't want too many large plants. I want my focus point to be that rock pile.

I'll draw up another design later.

Looks good Eric,

If you can get the moss to grow on the wood like that it will be very impressive

java moss or Christmas moss just tie it on the drift wood once it grows out you will never notice it but i would give it time before introducing fish let the plants establish black substrate and background will make your plants explode with color you could use eco complete its relatively cheap just mix it with black sand and save more money
