State of chaos
I tried to just place a brained pinky in front of my baby KSB, and the snake went into threat posture of jerking its body around with its head hidden and the tail up. I will try again later with forceps, holding the pinky above the snake's head. If that fails, I will put the KSB in a deli cup with the pinky overnihgt. If that doesn't work, I'll scent the pinky with chicken broth. If not, I'm screwed, because I hate feeding live :wall:

Please note that the breeder insisted several times that the KSB they sell are on frozen/thawed... that's the only reason I got one, because I have never used a live mouse before, and I really reeeeaally don't want to start.

Any suggestions?...

You just go her a week or two ago, so I say wait a few weeks if it doesn't take. Make sure your enclosure is good (Temperature gradients, lots of substrate to burrow into), make sure temps are perfect. If it truly was eating frozen/thawed with the breeder, then you know that it recognizes f/t as food. Maybe if you tried a rat pinkie, try a mouse pinkie? or vice versa.

This worked with my ball python, but I'm not sure if it would for a KSB. I covered the enclosure with a towel so he won't be stressed out from seeing me walk around in my room, and a few days later he took a frozen/thawed mouse.

Good luck AJ

Make sure the tank is secure and he has cover, if the ksb can see out all four side he will be stressed.... make sure all temps are correct... place the pinky in the tank and leave, ideally at night then turn light off. He'll find it on his own and eat it.... make sure its very warm though.

Okay, I covered all but the front pane of glass with pillowcases. If she doesn't eat from the forceps, I'll leave a pinky on a dish in the tank. Then deli cup, then chicken broth scenting, then I guess live.

My KSB didn't eat for about three weeks after I got him.... A trick I learned is that they like to feel like they are burrowed so instead of a deli cup use a small pillow case or snake bag. They like the feeling of being under something. Good luck I wouldn't really worry about itI would give him another week and try again.

Thanks Chad, BS11k, Joe, everyone. I only had my baby KSB for 7 days anyways.

Yeah, lots of snakes don't eat for the first few weeks. Give her time.

Putting it in a deli cup with mine overnight has always worked.

when i got my KSB as a hatchling, it wouldnt eat at first. i put it in a container with a f/t pinky and put it in a dark closet. and after an hour or two. the pinky was gone.

same here , last year when my female had babies i used this trick on the picky feeders , i used a small cup with lid and placed the warm pink and ksb in it , closed it,placed in a dark area and left them for a few hours . always worked.
