How should i go about adding a beta to a tropical community tank?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
im not pro enough to deal with salt tho

Don't cut yourself short! You don't have to be pro at all to use salt. It's actually a pretty basic addition to any tank. Just sprinkle some in! To be honest, i couldn't even tell you how much you really should use because I don't think I have ever measured when putting it in.

I've kept 2 different Betta's in my 55G community tank in the past several years. I've had a variety of fish with them, they hold their own and I have NEVER seen any aggression from the betta towards other fish. The only fear IMO is the betta getting his fins nipped. They probably do better the bigger the tank.

I saw go for it, they make a nice looking addition to community tanks IMO.

As long as the tank is 10gallons or more you will be fine. They show minimal aggression towards the fish you have named and thats just to let them know they are in charge. Your Mollies also are ok as they have been bred over the years in this type of water. However, they would thrive more with a bit of salt. Your other fish though, won't. SO do not add salt. If your Betta shows the others too much aggression just put up a small mirror in the back of the tank. He will give it all of his attention.

got all the fish in. There was a slight change in my stock tho. I did not get the tetras instead i got a few more danios. I also got 2 dalmatian mollies along with 3 paltties and an otocinclus. All of them are doing great and the betta is loving the company believe it or not. He really likes swimming with the danios at the top. He also hangs with the platties a lot to. He's overall very very mellow.
