How soon after a water change do you feed your fish?

It depends on the type of fish. Delicate and highly altered like fancy goldfish can develop lots of problems when fed right before a water change or soon after water change. Most of the time it's quite a good practise to fast the fish during water change day. For my Aros, I would wait a few hours after water change but also look at the overall behaviour of the fish to decide when and how much to feed.

I usually feed them first and wait a few hrs before water change. After water change I don't feed till the next day.

I frequently feed messy food the night before a water change, like catfish, which is oily.
I have not noticed this.....not that I I would feed it to my fish as I like it for myself too much lol!

catfish is oily? Uhm, catfish is classed as a delicate - a white meat, along w/ others like bass, cod, hake, burbot to name a few....... oily darks would be more like tuna, swordfish, bluefish, salmon etc. Your medium textures are fish like trout, bluegill, carp, and basically anthing that doesn't fit under a white or a dark, but somewhere in between
I wouldn't place an oily fish in my tanks. It's not worth tbe mess.

I usually will feed my fish immediately upon coming home from work during the week, then do some other things around the house while the water settles, and gravel vac/water change about an hour or so after feeding. Once the water change is done, I don't feed until the following morning

Usually feed mine about 20-30 min later. None of my fish hide from water changes most peck at my hands while I siphon and all of them seem to like the refill to play in. I feel the senegal dances in it best...

They do know what the big blue net means however and run like heck when they see it....smart little buggers.

I've never really put any thought into it, but I guess I do pretty much always feed before a water change. I usually get in 2 changes a week and usually don't feed more than twice a day so doesn't really matter to me.
