? how tall do you like to build your stands

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I just built the stand for my 220 at 35". Puts the tank riht at eye level with plenty of room underneath for the sump and the plumbing

Just a quick point.

High is fine, but it also increases the instability of the tank by raising the center of gravity. You don't want to tip the tank over while you're cleaning it!

If you have a tall stand I think you should consider attaching the stand to the wall or floor so that it can't be tipped over by accident by you or an earthquake
( I'm in California and have to worry about this! )

I like the tank top to be right about where my wifes' arm pit begins. This way she can easily reach in to grab an old piece of zuchini, rearrange something, break up a fight, etc. It's easier for me. I keep towels nearby, too. This way there's no reason to put off anything because you don't have a step stool right there or the time to fetch one. If we're just watching a tank to relax then sitting down is even more re-- relaxzzzzzzzz- zzzz...

just built and setup this one
plants are still in shock
stand is 24" tall a joy to work in no stool no mess
and because its in my study its at eyelevel

so if we are in california and it's an earthquake state... what is the max on the height? for a 72x24x24 and a 96x30x24 be? don't want to have a flood right after an earthquake. :)
There is no real hieght limit but as suggested you can tie it into a wall or less extreme you can build the stand wider at the bottom so it tapers to the tank width, that adds a lot of stability.

Just measure the height of your armpit - an inch or so,,, then subtract the height of the tank. That will put it right where you need it so you won't need a stool.

good luck.
