The Land where Fish Rule!
Hey guys I was wondering the average height of your guys canopies are. I have a 220 gal aquarium (30.5" tall) on a 36" tall stand (quite tall for a stand) and i am looking to add a canopy on top ov it. The canopy will have four doors that open to match the cabinites on the stand. The canopy will also have crown molding on it as well. I have very high ceilings so its no restriction. Can you guys tell me how big yours aare, especialy if you have a very tall stand like me and also mention if your canopy measurement includes crown mouling aswell thanks!

I have a 24" tall 210g with a 34" tall stand. I have been debating canopy height too as I plan on building on as a winter project. Ceiling height is not any issue for me either. I intend to have storage for food, built in electrical control for all of the tank, etc so I need some height to my canopy. I made a mock up out of cardboard, adjusted the height on it a few times and decided around 18" looked best on my tank. Any taller and the canopy seemed, at least IMO, to overpower the tank.

i belive the hight of the cannopy depends on how high you need the lights to be. and how you want it to look.

I've gone for the 10" open top style canopy, 26" tall 230g tank and I'm not quite sure what size the stand is tbh, no pics until it get delivered friday though :(

Sounds like you're wanting very tall with cuboards as well, a shopfitter mate of mine used kitchen units and fancy doors to do just this to make both the stand and the canopy, it looked a very pro job as well..... again no pics :(

its a fresh water tank so its just a very simple lighting fixture so the lighting has no effect. Its going to be very nice finished, its actually going to look like a wooden built in to the coner of the room. Not really a in wall tank beacuse its not in the wall but there will be wooden paneling that will hide the back of the tank on one side and on the coner side the wood will hide the on side of the tank. It will look like a built in piece of funiture and will attach directly to the wall. Any other input for the canopy?

To ben honest, you would only have to worry if the tank was made of acrylic. You can put the fixture as high or as low as you want.

Keeping in mind clearence for feeding, airflow (depending on Bulb choice) and maintenance. These are really the only things to consider. If it were an acrylic tank yoou would have to make sure that lighting is not to close as this can increase chances of Crazing and possible failure of the top, depending on the consistent bulb temps...
