How the HECK do I get algae to grow in my tanks?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'd try more light before messing with the feeding or water change schedule. Those are probably better leaving alone. If you put bright lights, on for 10-12 hours a day, you will have algae growth.
Thanks! I'll certainly be trying that. I appreciate the help x3

Algae doesn't need dirty water to grow, in nature it can grow in absolutely pristine conditions. A decent photo period with a good quality plant light is all that's needed. Mine is on for 10 hrs a day with the rocks I want the algae on directly under the light.

If you had algae before, you likely still have spores in your tank. Other than what has been previously posted, you can add plant fertilizers to the water and without plants to absorb the extra nutrients, the algae will grow again.
A little more expensive way to do it but it would work.

Edit: Niki_up Niki_up beat me to it!
