This has been posted a couple times before, and I still can't beleive people actually do this to make there fish apear better.

Wow opinions change. If I could find someone qualified to do DE surgery. I would do it. It's not just the looks of the fish. One of my large silvers has DE in both eyes, it can't feed off floating foods on the surface and has a hard time even grabbing shrimp that is sinking right in front of it. A very sad thing to see.

i think that if it was to "help" the fish as in your silvers case it is a good thing but just cause you don't like the look of the fish is stupid

although they were quick and experienced in doing these types of procedures, they had no surgical gloves on and they broke their sterile field multiple times. under those conditions, such a medical procedure is highly probable to have a considerable failiure rate due to infection. i'd guess a 60-40 ratio of success to failure . . .

How long can arowana go without water?

i have read from many sorces that 5mins is "max"...in the vid it is atleast 6min...mine was out for about 8min when it jumped and lived...in the vid they dumped water on the fish a few times...i would just keep it in the water as much as possible;)

in some cases drop eyed arrows don't eat. Not sure whether it's due to poor sight or discomfort from pressure caused by growth. Imagine if you had a growth behind your eye that was so big, you roll your eyes up.

Im no expert but what i heard is the growth starts as fluid but then hardens.

i tried cutting and releasing the fluids in my arrows eye, kept the fish in water though and just one slice, saw the fluids come out and put her back. she was back eating next day. unfortunately the fluid sack came back after 2 weeks.

then i learned you are supposed to push the eye to get all the fluids out, similar to popping and emptying a pimple.

In this video, it looks like they are cutting things out. Don't understand why they cut under the eye as well. would be interesting to see what the fish looked like prior.

not something to try at home though i wish there was a fish vet here who could do this.

i agree with Bderick67 if the surgery is to benefit the welfare of the fish not just for cosmetic reasons I would jump at the opportunity if I were to find a qualified vet to handle the procedure.

heh, I love the pornie ninties music they put in with it. "the principles of lust are easy to understand..." Perfect fish surgery music.

wow.. u can actually make out the words??? I thought it was principles of love... lol..

ANYWAYS.. i agree that drop eye is something not too serious... but it would be nice to see my arowana's eyes like they were when little...
