how thick should the glass be

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
glass sizing is always so tricky

but one thing is always true

its best to go overboard than under...contrary to the definition of the term...going overboard means you DONT end up getting wet

no way 19mm. ud need 19mm if it was just 4ft wide 15 if it was 3 foot wide and atleast 25 mm if it was 5ftwide. if you can afford(which is fair enough over here 25mm cost 1500 dollars a sqm retail price) then go less wide

thanks mate so 4 foot it might have to be will this still be ok for my rtcxtsn??

My 265 is 7 feel long and uses half inch glass. I'll double check to make sure of it, but it's no way over 5/8"

just use a split window instead of making the tank smaller.

hed still need over 19mm glass no idea on the rtcxtsn and the length of the tank doesnt mean anything ive seen 14x2x28" tanks outta 10mm its the width and height that counts and the sixe of panel dont matter uve still gotta a hella load of water and even though split windows would make a difference in this case imo not enough to reduce glass thickess unless he went 3x2 19mm(just 1 window) or sumthin like that window.
also look around fer scrap glass u can find em easy as throiugh building scavengers my boss got about 5000 bux wortha 15mm(biggest peice was 10x5ft) fer 100 bux (second hand) from a shop hes keeping it to make a huge pbass tank

what about a sheet of acrylic how thick would this have to be as is stronger than glass

actually acrlic is only more shock resistant. it can handle more bowing as well but ud need thicker acrylic then glass. i dunno on acrylic thickness but some dude on here had 1.5" i think on a 1000. it should be round in the diy section
